Celebs Love Tahiti

Worldwide, Tahiti is known as the ultimate destination for romance, seclusion and luxury. Perhaps that’s why celebrities find it so enticing! They live their lives in the spotlight so when it’s time to take a vacation, they want nothing but total privacy. Here are just a few celebs that have traveled to the islands of Tahiti. The rest probably escaped paparazzi radar, which we suppose is the whole point!

‘Moons and Stars

When it comes to a honeymoon, Tahiti is frequently the destination of choice for movie stars and celebrities. In 2001, actress Christina Applegate and then-husband Johnathan Schaech spent their honeymoon at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa. Jenny Craig spokeswoman Sara Rue and her hubby Kevin Price were also guests of the same resort after their wedding in 2011.

In 2006, actress Nicole Kidman and her country superstar husband Keith Urban stayed at the ultra-luxurious Royal Estate at the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort & Spa for their honeymoon. Coincidentally, Eva Longoria also stayed at the resort at the same time with then-boyfriend Tony Parker for their own romantic getaway. Longoria was quoted saying, “Bora Bora [is luxurious]. The water is blue, the beaches are white; it’s like an untouched Hawaii… and yes, I did stay in one of those hotel rooms on stilts above the water, which was great.” In August 2009, the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort also welcomed newlyweds Alyssa Milano and David Bugliari after their wedding at his family’s estate in New Jersey.

And in 2010, country singer Carrie Underwood and her hockey player hubby, Mike Fisher, escaped to Le Taha’a Island Resort & Spa for their honeymoon. The best part? He planned the whole thing! We love that.

Different Reasons, All Seasons

But it’s not just honeymoons that attract celebrities to Tahiti. Famous couples often escape to Bora Bora for their anniversaries or family vacations as well. The most recent celebrity sighting was Kelly Preston with her 1 1/2-year-old son Benjamin and family friend Robert De Niro, who were spotted cruising around French Polynesia on a yacht.

Also pretty recent, actor Dennis Quaid took his wife Kimberly to Bora Bora to celebrate their anniversary. They stayed at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa in a two-story Presidential Overwater Villa. After the getaway, Kimberly wrote to the resort saying, “I have never seen such a breathtaking sight. It was certainly an anniversary to remember.” The other recent sighting was Orlando Bloom and wife Miranda Kerr, who vacationed at the Four Seasons Bora Bora earlier this year with their little boy, Flynn.

During the holidays in 2008, comedian Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi went to Bora Bora and Ellen shared some video clips of their trip with fans during her famous afternoon talk show. Here’s one below!

Movies, TV and “Reality” Shows

While most celebs want privacy, some stars take the cameras with them! On ABC’s 2010 season of The Bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky took her final three suitors to Taha’a and Bora Bora. They first stayed at Le Taha’a Island Resort & Spa, then filmed at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa where the guys met her family and Roberto eventually proposed. Watch the romantic scene below! This was filmed at the top of the hill where the Hina Spa is located.

The other reality TV show to film in Bora Bora was Keeping up with the Kardashians on E! in 2011. The celebrity family stayed at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, which is where Kris and Bruce Jenner renewed their vows.

On the last season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Tamra Barney and Eddie Judge stayed at the lovely Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, which is where Eddie proposed on their bungalow deck!

Finally, Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis and Kristen Bell took over the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort in late 2008 to film their movie, “Couples Retreat,” and they held their press junket there too!

Even Celebs Can Dream

While some stars have already been to Tahiti, others still dream of it. Chris O’Dowd, most known for his role as the cute policeman alongside funny girl Kristen Wiig in the movie Bridesmaids, was quoted saying Bora Bora is his “dream trip.” He says he’d love to go to Bora Bora and stop over in New Zealand. Chris, we’d love to help you plan that trip! We obviously have a few ideas already, but where do you think he should stay?!
