If you already read our post from last week, Surfing: Teahupo’o & Beyond, this is the perfect sequel. Now you can get a visual sense of just how thick and dangerous the waves at Teahupo’o can get. Yesterday, Billabong released their “Code Red” documentary on YouTube’s action sports channel, Network A, and you just have to see it to believe it.
The video documents the historic events of August 27, 2011, when the Billabong Pro Tahiti was called off due to a massive swell at Teahupo’o. Forecasts were calling for unprecedented surf of over 20 feet. The Tahitian Coast Guard issued a “Code Red” advisory, which sought to keep everyone on shore. However, some of the world’s best big-wave surfers decided to take on the challenge. This documentary follows two surfers, Laurie Towner and Dylan Longbottom, as they tackle some of the heaviest, most dangerous waves ever recorded.
