Bora Bora with Giada De Laurentiis

Last year, celebrity chef and Food Network host Giada De Laurentiis went to Bora Bora for her special, “Giada in Paradise,” where she explores food and culture from her favorite worldwide vacation destinations. The episode originally aired on January 15th, 2012, but don’t worry if you missed it because we have a few clips and recipes from the show! Also, the Cooking Channel is still airing her adventures, so check your local listings and you may catch a repeat.

Giada De Laurentiis actually has family history with the island of Bora Bora. Her grandfather was Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis, who built a hotel on the island while filming the 1979 movie, “Hurricane.” The resort, which is now the Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach Resort, proudly showcases vintage photographs of the cast and the crew taken during the production. In the clip below, De Laurentiis pays a visit to the resort and enjoys lunch at the aptly named Hurricane Bar in her grandfather’s memory.

In addition to the poolside bar, check out her other favorite restaurants including Villa Mahana, Lagoon by Jean Georges, and the Sunset Restaurant at Four Seasons. You can even try some of the Tahitian inspired recipes from the show, such as traditional poisson cru and a dreamy coconut dessert. All eating aside, De Laurentiis also had a rich cultural experience during her time in Bora Bora. Watch below as she swims with stingrays, cracks open a coconut and learns how to dance with the Tahitian locals!
